Got mine for $200 (it was a simple pack, included picks, tuner, extra strings, strap)
there are cheap ones for $100, and there are some that fly up to $2000
I'd say aim for something in the range of $200 - $400

I am sharing my maple account with my cousin, not sure how much he plays, and..... yea life kinda sucks right now....

Depends on how you'd use it. Any musical instrument is not the cheapest thing to buy. Electric guitars? I think reasonable price starts from around $200-$250. $600-$800 is a good guitar for a professional musician (these are usually made by cheaper subdivisions of the original famous manufacturing companies), and $1000+ is what musicians want/buy for themselves (these are made by the original manufacturing companies themselves). And if you're extremely rich, you can order a custom guitar (starts at around $2000+) which will be made by the best masters, and you will be able to pick every part of it yourself.
These are prices for new guitars, used ones are cheaper, of course.

Who would play a guitar that costs $16k? You hang it on a wall under a glass and attach an alarm to it.

It's just because I did a thorough research regarding electric guitars prices not so long ago for myself. In any case, if you're gonna buy a new one, you'll be able to listen to it in the shop and decide if you like it or not.
